The International Indigenous RPL Collective

31st Annual RPL Conference

May 27-29, 2020

“RPL: Awakening Individuals and Organizations; Strengthening Cultures”

October 1, 2020

Conference Update and Book Publication

Wishing everyone good health for themselves, their families and communities during these stressful times.

We are happy to provide an update after several months of inactivity.

As many of you are aware we postponed the 31st Annual PLAR conference which was originally planned for May 27-29, 2020, tentatively re-scheduling it for November 4-6, 2020. Given the current state of the pandemic with cases on the increase in Canada and internationally, it does not seem realistic or safe to proceed with the conference in November.  We hope that in 2021 we will have gotten the virus under control and that we will once again be able to host the conference without risk to our health and well-being.

We are in the final stages of finalizing the publication of, “The International Indigenous Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) Practitioner Manual”, which combines best practices in RPL from mainstream and Indigenous settings. Our goal is to share the manual widely and to engage with other individuals and groups wishing to strengthen RPL practice and to ensure that it respectfully integrates the cultural teachings and ways of knowing of diverse Indigenous Nations and their communities.

We will provide an update on both the conference and the publication of the manual in the coming weeks.

In the meantime, stay safe and be well.

Yours truly,

Paul Zakos, Chair
